Angela Lee, Ed.D., L.P.C.
Hi! My name is Angela Lee. One of my passions has always been helping others. I grew up in a large blended family where I learned the art of communication at an early age. I believe there is always another perspective to the situation and that understanding others can bring enlightenment and help encourage a growing understanding of self and situation as well. It is this enlightenment that helps facilitate change but it all starts with communication.
I specialize in working with teenagers, children and adolescents. Just like many of us, our youth have been greatly affected by the pandemic. Difficult emotions like anxiety, depression and despair have increased drastically as our kids are experiencing changing environments with school, feeling cut off from peers and concerns and worries over the everchanging future. I also work with adults dealing with similar concerns. Sometimes we just need someone to talk to and help us make sense of things. We are better able to face the unknown together.
My approach to treatment is primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which helps with learning skills and problem solving. CBT helps us to become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking so we can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way. We will work together as a team to overcome difficulties by addressing thinking, behavior and emotional responses. Through challenging or combating negative thoughts that contribute to negative emotions, the therapist and client replace these thoughts and incorporate active use of skills to help our youth become resilient and excel.
I also work with individuals who have experienced severe grief and trauma. Trauma work can be difficult and requires a steady but delicate hand. Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy is a specific treatment modality with effectiveness proven through research. The nine treatment components are: Psychoeducation, Parenting Skills, Relaxation, Affective Identification and Regulation, Cognitive Coping, Trauma Narration and Processing, In Vivo Mastery, Conjoined Child Parent Sessions and Enhancing Safety & Future Development. Specific trauma work can include but is not limited to sexual and physical abuse, domestic violence, death, PTSD, injuries, accidents and natural disasters. For more information, please feel free to call or email me. I look forward to answering any questions you may have as we start a new journey.
